Naming

Usually when travelling across time zones they increase or decrease by one hour, but the clock strikes differently in Newfoundland. Before joining Canada in 1949, The Dominion of Newfoundland opted to create its own time zone. While much of the island lies west of the exact meridian, the capital city of St.John’s was at the “Half Time Zone” we know today.
